We use DATEDIF function to find the difference between any two dates.
Which DATEDIF function tells us in the form of year, month and day.
Excel doesn't help you fill in the arguments for DATEDIF like other functions, but it will work if you give the arguments in the correct syntax.
It does not show normal syntax like other Excel functions, but you can get your result by using it properly.

We use DATEDIF function to find the difference between any two dates.

DATEDIF Function Syntax

=Datedif(start_date,end_date,format_type)

start_date: Here you have to give the start date.

end_date: Here you have to give the end date.

format_Type: In Format Type you have to write Year, Year of Month and Month day.

Y: Y means Years, used to calculate the total years between the two dates.

M: Used to find the total month between both the dates.

D: Used to find the total month of days between both the dates.

Example of DATEDIF Function in excel in English.

Let us understand this with an example. We have a data in which some projects are given and the start date of each project i.e. when that project started and end date i.e. when that project ended is given.

Now we have to find out how many years did it take to complete these projects? And similarly months and days also have to be calculated.

So in such a situation we can use DATEDIF Function and we will find Total Years, months and days in the next cell.
So we used DATEDIF function here and got our result.
And you have to note that unlike other Excel functions, the syntax of DATEDIF function is not visible in Excel. So you have to remember their syntax carefully and give the syntax correctly.
To extract the No of Year, =DATEDIF(B2,C2,”Y”) was used, in which I wrote “Y” in the format Type. To get the No of Month, =DATEDIF(B2,C2,”M”) was used, in which I wrote “M” in the Format Type. To get the No of Day, =DATEDIF(B2,C2,”D”) was used, in which I wrote “D” in the format type.
